Abstract

Problem-based / project-based learning (PBL) approaches have been shown to be effective in many professional programs that are directly related to the student's future career. Research has shown that students and learners working in a PBL context improve their skills compared to those who attend traditional classes. Despite these advances, PBL is rarely seen in computer science curricula. Project learning is a complex process and we find it incredibly difficult to effectively implement in school life. This is especially true if our students are interested in something less academic, such as video games. We may wonder if video games can even be linked to school work. In fact, video games are one of the best areas for project learning. In turn, this approach can make teaching students interesting and broadening their horizons.
Methodology / Approach - A teaching method for developing video games using the PBL pedagogical approach. The main goal is to build core competencies, improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and introduce students to the design and development of video games.
Conclusions - the PBL method improved the students' skills and expanded their knowledge both theoretically and practically within the framework of the programming field. By integrating the PBL approach into the curriculum, it was possible to notice higher levels of engagement, increased motivation and the development of quality work on the part of students.
